Today, somehow my Giveaway doesn’t seem to be working. My day was full of mundane details and tasks, and my brain feels tired and slow. It’s 8:15pm and I am wondering what happened to my “giving mojo.” I saw quite a lot of people today as I navigated my schedule. At 8:30 this morning, two guys came to install a new shed in our back yard. After they had toiled away in 90-degree heat for 4 hours, I gave them a tip, but it didn’t occur to me to give them an object. Then, my brother Alan’s friend came to take him to San Diego for a week. She gave me something, which was very unexpected, but when I offered her something, she declined politely – it was tea and she is cutting down on caffeine. My son Theo and his friends were at an art class together, but somehow I failed to connect a gift to that event. In the afternoon, I called a nursing home to try to give them something but ended up leaving a message. To make matters worse, one of the gifts I sent to a friend a couple of weeks ago came back to me in the mail – I’d made a mistake with the address! Ugh – nothing but misses today.
So, this evening, because I usually bump into a few people I know on my walk along the lake, I hid a secret giveaway item in my pocket and hoped I might find the right person to give it to. But, today, in my half-hour walk along the lake, there were no familiar faces – only strangers, a coyote and some Canadian geese. I arrived home saddened at my inability to give something away. There are still a few hours left before the clock strikes midnight, so I am hoping that either desperation or inspiration will kick in and save the day…which one will it be?

OK, it’s 10pm and desperation won! I took two more books to the Little Free Library. But, to counter the mundane that muddied my day, I chose two volumes of Cressida Cowell’s How to Train your Dragon series. Nothing mundane about those stories..
